Screen shot 2013-10-07 at 11.59.58 AMAdam May, national correspondent for America Tonight on Al Jazeera America, is in Asheville today for a full day of interviews. May tweets:

Wonderful coffee on a rainy morning, sitting by the fire…. Prepping for a day full of interviews.

Here’s why I’m in Asheville NC. The government shutdown was “planned” by this areas congressman LONG ago

Armed Rangers block Smoky Mountain resort gates, closed in shutdown. 90 workers laid off

@brepass yes, blue ridge… Correction. Thanks

So it sounds like May could be interviewing U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows of Western North Carolina, whom he referenced in one of his tweets. (More on Meadows’ role in the government shutdown.) The operator of the Pisgah Inn, Bruce O’Connell, is another likely interview subject. O’Connell said he was going to defy the shutdown order, then gave in. More as it comes in.

Thanks to loyal reader Jen for the heads-up.

I think we’d all like to ask Meadows, what on earth was he thinking?
Closing the government, and at the peak of tourist season,
does nothing but hurt his constituents. It is obvious he serves the Tea Party instead of NC.

It is very obvious he serves the Tea Party. Back when he was running for the Republican nomination he told a Tea Party gathering that he would support an investigated into Obama’s birth certificate. He later told the Citizen Times that he believed Obama was born in the United States. Now there’s a profile in courage!

He has his fingerprints all over the letter calling for a government shutdown and then publicly (again in the Citizen Times) downplays this connection and plods on and on about how heartsick he is over it all and how it is effecting his constituents with the closing of the Smokey Mountain National Park.

He also is on record as believing in Agenda 21 conspiracies which puts him on board with other Tea nonsense.

This is what people get for voting for anybody just because he has an R after his name.

Boy, Representative Meadows sure went against the grain saying he believes Obummer was born in the United States. Most of the people in Asheville believe he was born in a manger in Bethlehem.
